Regional – South East Kanmantoo Province
Overview
The regional area comprises 4,187 km2 of exploration licences within the Kanmantoo Province in the south-east of South Australia. The Kanmantoo Province Projects are located within Cambro-Ordovician sediments that been subject to the Delamerian Orogeny.
Within south-east South Australia the Cambrian geology affected by the Delamerian Orogen can be stratigraphically, magmatically, magnetically and structurally divided into two main north-south domains, the Kanmantoo Trough of rift sediments to the west of the Murray River and the Cambro-Ordovician Basement of volcanics and sediments to the east of the Murray River. The two domains are separated by the north-south striking Coorong Shear Zone. Together, these two domains are referred to as the Kanmantoo Province.
Key targets in the area are: Firehawk, Sherlock and Turanza.
There are a number of prospective targets throughout the province.
Key Facts
- Firehawk has been identified as a porphyry type magnetic anomaly located on the Coorong Shear Zone. There is no previous drilling or exploration activities.
- The Sherlock Cu-Zn prospect was discovered by a stratigraphic drilling program along roadsides in the Coomandook area by the GSSA in 1994 (RB95/00020). Ground magnetics and gravity by GSSA identified the area as a low magnetic intensity and high gravity anomaly. There are large zones of epigenetic Zn-Pb-Cu-Ag sulphide mineralisation in historic drilling at the Sherlock prospect.
- The Turanza Cu-Zn prospect was also discovered by a stratigraphic drilling program along roadsides in the Coomandook area by the GSSA in 1994 (RB95/00020). Turanza is ~ 3.5 kms southwest of Sherlock in a separate volcanic/sediment unit and is identified by roadside soil sampling anomalies, past drill holes.
