Hillgrove Resources has successfully transitioned from an open-pit to an underground copper producer through substantial resource expansion while committing to ongoing exploration.
Located in the Adelaide Hills, just 55km from the Adelaide CBD, Hillgrove Resources has operated since 2005 and completed open pit mining at the Kanmantoo Copper Mine in 2020. Underground development commenced in 2023, with Hillgrove transitioning to underground copper production in 2024.
The Kanmantoo Copper Mine, situated in South Australia’s Tier 1 mining jurisdiction, has rapidly ramped up to an annual production rate of approximately 12,000 tonnes of copper. The operation is well capitalised, supported by significant existing infrastructure including a 3.6Mtpa processing plant, and is connected to market via Port Adelaide, only 75km away.
Hillgrove is also advancing its broader growth pipeline, including farming into the Mutooroo Copper Project in northeastern South Australia, approximately 60km southwest of Broken Hill.
In addition, Hillgrove holds 100 per cent of a series of Exploration Licences across South Australia and actively manages its tenement portfolio to maintain exposure to the most prospective parts of the province while allocating capital efficiently. This disciplined approach ensures exploration effort is focused on opportunities capable of supporting long‑term production growth and value creation.
